Catching up!

It's been awhile since I last posted, time to catch up. We had a wonderful time in Marble Falls, staying right on the shores of Lake LBJ at Sunset Point RV. Next to our RV site was the biggest mound of natural granite between us and the lake. Gabbi and I spent a lot of time exploring the big pink rock. There were several granite quarries in Marble Falls from what we could see. And the cutest little deer were roaming around everywhere we went. We almost hit one that ran out in front of us.


Friday evening we met up with Mike & Lynda who were in town from Seattle as well as Ed & Connie from Montgomery. That night we all had dinner at the swanky Horseshoe Bay Yacht Club. Saturday morning we enjoyed breakfast together in Marble Falls at the famous Blue Bonnet Cafe, then headed over to see Mike & Lynda's Horseshoe Bay property which they plan to build on some day. It was a beautiful, sunny day, perfect for exploring.


That evening, there happened to be a Seahawks game on TV. While the guys watched the game at the Horseshoe Bay Marriott sports bar, we girls shopped to our heart's content at Beall's buy one/get one sale where none of us walked away empty handed. During half-time, the girls headed over to the bar to catch the last half of the game and what a game it was! The Seahawks actually won... We were getting hungry so we took a look at the sports bar menu and found things like Texas Rattlesnake, Rabbit Sausage andStuffed Bone Marrow. After all, we are in Texas! We decided to eat there and it was scrumptuous!

The next day it started raining and Ed & Connie headed home. The rest of us enjoyed lunch and dinner together before parting company. What a great weekend visiting with our friends!

We didn't have to be anywhere for the first time, so we headed south trying to find some warmer weather. We stopped at Lake Corpus Christi State Park and ran into Ed & Carolyn, also Foretravel owners who were heading south for the winter. We spent two nights there and made arrangements to visit Retama Village in Mission, Texas. We had visited their booth at the FMCA Convention this past summer in Redmond, Oregon and they gave us a five night free stay to check out the property. Retama Village is a 55+ RV community. They offer beautiful homes with RV parking as well as RV lots with a small coach house. They also offer homes without RV parking. The property is right next to the Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park, a birder's paradise; and the 100 acre National Butterfly Center where they have annual festivals celebrating the migratory path that over 300 butterfly species take through the Rio Grande Valley. Unfortunately, it rained almost the entire time we were there so after a tour of the property, we spent most of our time in the coach with the exception of a brief shopping excursion and lunch out. Shopping was a necessity and lunch was a big disappointment. During our tour, we drove right up to the Rio Grande, not even a mile from our site. The Rio Grande is not very wide or deep and one has to wonder why there is no fence. The day before we were due to depart, the sun came out and all the residents came out of the woodwork. Very friendly place but probably won't meet our needs.

We headed north and spent another night at Lake Corpus Christi State Park where we ran into Ed & Carolyn again. The next day we made it all the way to Lake Conroe in Willis where we're camped on the shore in a beautiful site. Gabbi loves it here. There are squirrels to chase, grass to roll around in and the cutest pup named Chloe who is half yorkie/half schnauzer who loves to come over and play. The weather could be better, but I'm not complaining after hearing how bad it is everywhere else!

We're planning to stay here at Sunset Shores in Willis until it's time to leave for Breckenridge with Ed & Connie on February 11. We'll drop our coach at Foretravel that morning to have a ladder added to our coach and a few other minor fixes while we're gone.

Meanwhile, until then we'll just be hanging out here on the shores of Lake Conroe not far from Ed & Connie in Montgomery enjoying the good life... 

It's a new year!

We had a wonderfully relaxing and quiet Christmas and hope the same was true for all of our friends and family! We drove three hours to Montgomery on Christmas Eve Day in our new RV for a "shakedown" trip [to find any bugs that might need to be fixed]. We arrived at the KOA, parked and went in search of a good restaurant. After three days of moving our belongings from the old RV into the new one [I still haven't found the shoes that I misplaced], we were too tired to cook and hungry as we hadn't eaten since breakfast. The first two restaurants we went to were closed or just closing, so we were about to head back to the RV but decided to take a chance on an Italian restaurant called Giovanni's. Just as we got there, the sky opened up and it really started pouring. The restaurant was super busy and after waiting what seemed like eternity, someone finally greeted us and asked if we had reservations. Reservations? Uh, no. Luckily, they had a table for two available and it turned out to be a very romantic evening. The food and service were exceptional and we can't wait to go back. We're pretty sure our waiter was Giovanni!

Christmas day was spent with Ed and Connie visiting in our new RV. That evening we went to see True Grit at the movie theatre. It was brrrrrr cold which made it seem more like Christmas. After the weekend, we drove back to Nac where we would spend our days in our old coach while the new one was in the shop. We drove back to Ed and Connie's for New Years weekend where none of us made it up until midnight New Year's eve! That's a true sign of aging!

So here we are back in Nac where the weather is pleasant enough. It's fun coming back here, we always run into other Foretravel owners from around the country that we've met in the past. In a few days, we'll be heading to Marble Falls, near Austin, to meet up with friends Mike and Lynda from Seattle for the weekend. After that, we'll be hanging out between Nac and Montgomery until we head to Breckenridge, Colorado with Ed and Connie the third week in February, for a week of skiing. We won't be taking the RV on this trip. We'll be staying at Grand Lodge, a ski in-ski out property where we have a timeshare. More on that later.
