After two weeks of some fun in the sun, we arrived back in Nacogdoches Thursday [Dec 16]! Unfortunately for us, we came back to weather in the 50's during the day and freezing cold at night for the next several days according to the weather forecast! Not that it was super fantastic in Mexico with 50F at night and if we were lucky, 80 during the day except when the fog rolled in which happened often! During the 11 years we've been visiting Mazatlan, this was the first time we we have gone in December! We'll stick to the warmer months from now on. Still, it was much better than the crazy weather in the states. It does seem the chilly weather is everywhere this year and can't be escaped, as hard as we've tried!
It's good to have Gabbi back with us and already it seems like we never even left. I picked up my new glasses, we're unpacked and all the laundry is finished and put away. Now I need to work on getting our annual newsletter written and Christmas cards in the mail. I hope I have the energy...
Our first week in Mazatlan was spent in the company of good friends Ed & Connie who meet us there every year and Mike & Lynda. The six of us spent the days in thoughtful conversation while lounging by the pool and evenings eating fine food and drinking Spanish coffees and margaritas. Some of us even snuck in a massage at the spa which, I have to say, was world class! The second week, after all our friends went home, was very quiet. Kris & I caught up on our reading while eating breakfast by the pool. We went into town for romantic dinners and watched the sunset which was absolutely the best, next to the food of course! Oh, how I miss the wonderful Mexican food after we've left!
Sadly, my white poncho bought in South Africa a few years ago disappeared while we were in Mexico! It was my absolute favorite and I'm really unhappy about it because it can't be replaced. So now I'm on the hunt for a replacement. They have over 12,000 listings for ponchos on eBay but it would just take too long to go through all those listings. I did find one that looks very similar to mine but it is only cotton and it is a bit pricey for my taste. I only paid $15 for mine after all and it was wool and cotton... I may end up having to make one, sigh.
So now we are back at "Camp" Foretravel where we had scheduled to have some maintenance done on our RV while we were in Mexico. The plan was to drive home some time by the end of December or early January as we have a flight out of Seattle to Denver in February for our annual ski trip to Breckenridge. The truth is, before we left for Mexico, we traded our Foretravel RV for a newer, longer one and are waiting for some modifications so we can transfer our things over and take it for what Kris calls a "shakedown" trip. The newer one is 45', same length as the one I drove during Ladies Driving School but this one has an extra bathroom and a king-sized dual adjustable bed! Oh joy!! It also has two deep slides in the front giving us more living area and two slides in the back [bedroom]. I can't wait to move in! In the meanwhile, we're still living in our previous RV ~ sure hope it doesn't sell before the new one is ready!! Kris says I can't keep a secret, but it's been several weeks and I haven't mentioned it publicly to anyone. Since he told our friends in Mexico, I guess that means the secret's out!
